Sepia

I'm going to be reviewing restaurant experiences from time-to-time. Mainly because I eat out all the time and notice when places are good, or not-so-good. It's actually kind of annoying when you get used to good service, because bad service is so obvious.

We'd heard about the newly opened Sepia for a while before it actually debuted. We went on a Friday night, about 2 weeks after they opened. We had this amazing semi-private table in the back. The space is incredible. The interior designer should really be given "props". I paint this very positive picture because this is my way of pointing out that I do, sometimes, say positive things!

The server was great at the beginning, got us all acclimated to the menu, made recommendations, etc. He took our drink order (btw some amazing specialty drinks). It took over 20 mins to get our drinks! Drinks. Like pour some liqour in the glass, ad mixer, stir. The appetizers took 1 hour. The food was really mediocre. Most of our apps and entrees lacked flavor. I had the "veal breast" which was supposed to be braised, but it really wasnt done properly. Still had lots of fat on it, and was really bland.

I hope they pull it together, this place has amazing potential. The kitchen, bar, and servers are not working together.

Here begin's the rating system - 6/10

Sidetrack Arrogance at it's best

So several of my friends and I made a jaunt to Sidetrack on a Saturday night. Let me preface this by saying that I've lived in this city for countless years and have been a patron at this bar since about day 2. I get the "rules" and where you're supposed to stand, and how you're supposed to order a drink, ugh. But, sometimes your friends don't.

On this particular evening the bar was way over capacity. Way over. Like, I've got sweat on my shirt and it's not my own, packed. So we're f'ing thrilled when we find a spot at the bar in the glass bar. Cut to us ordering rounds of 8-10 drinks at a time. And my friends are big girly men that drink the very macho diet red bull and flavored vodak at about $8 a pop. Am I painting a good picture that these are not cheap rounds? Well one of their long time bartenders (are there any that aren't?) starts to get an attitude with us. My boyfriend is trying to order drinks and Im standing a few people over, so the bartender doesn't know that we know each other. The bartender tells the barback to serve him because he's not serving these people. The bartender then comes to me and asks what I need. I explain that this is my boyfriend and inquire as to the problem. "Well I'm not serving you then either". Whoa!

Long story short, he starts making fun of us to other patrons that he WOULD serve. I ask a few more times what happened. I'm ignored. We finally take the group of 10 next door.

Seriously, get over yourself. Your job is to serve drinks, right? No one was mean or hurtful to you, right? Did you really get mad at 10 people because they were blocking your service area for 5 minutes?

Well I emailed the owner, but of course never heard back. It's one thing to be rude to some stupid tourist that doesn't have a clue what's going on. But to people that have helped pay your rent for years??? Sounds like you pooin' where you live.

An Introduction - ahemmm....

I've decided to kick-start this blog, mostly because I like to complain about things. Well, then again, these tend to be really f'ing funny stories sometimes. I tend to be on the receiving end of food service, bar service, etc on a rather consistent basis. So, this will serve as a medium for sharing my experiences. Sounds boring.... We'll see.
